THE TRIBUNAL
The Hamburg Tribunal was planned for the beginning of July 2022 and has now been postponed to June 2023. The postponement became necessary because the previous main donor, the church, has withdrawn from funding the Tribunal.
We look forward to implementing the Tribunal in June 2023 with renewed vigour, independent funding and the same panel of judges. Between now and then, we will be holding several events on the topics covered in the Tribunal.
The international Hamburg Tribunal is based on the idea of the Russell Tribunal and other tribunals that have worked for peace and human rights.
Using concrete examples of human rights violations and violations of international law in northern Syria, Mexico, Yemen and Africa, global interrelationships will be made clearly visible and negotiated in the tribunal. In this context, the export of arms via the HH port is a center of consideration.
Jury
A competent jury consisting of internationally renowned lawyers and public figures will question experts and witnesses over the course of three days and will ultimately expose injustice and name those responsible in the arms companies, the federal government and the Hamburg Senate.

Our Concern
We want to show why international law and human rights are currently difficult to implement. We want to contribute to the creation of better instruments, regulations and institutions for the future. In this context, a crucial aspect - besides criminal prosecution - is prevention, conflict resolution and conflict healing.
"Every aggression must be condemned [...] But as long as states know how to prevent this, only the organisation of a tribunal of peoples remains to counter the strategy of forgetting war and the erosion of law." (Prof. Norman Peach)
Documentation
We are aware that the Tribunal has no means to enforce the verdicts of its jury. We therefore rely on the persuasive power of the Tribunal and its verdicts and its public impact. This is to be strengthened by an accompanying educational program, fringe events and cinematic as well as written documentation, which will be broadcast live online worldwide.
